Questions I get asked quite a bit …
Why concrete?
I’m drawn to concrete for its sense of weight and permanence. It’s a material we associate with structure and endurance rather than softness, and that contrast is important to me when working with the figure. The surface isn’t just a backdrop — it becomes part of the presence of the work itself.
Is the surface planned?
There’s a balance between intention and intuition. The portraits are carefully drawn, but the surface is allowed to push back. I like that tension, it keeps the work physical and stops it from becoming overly polished.
Are these works about a specific person?
They aren’t portraits of particular individuals, but they are rooted in the human figure. I’m interested in capturing a sense of presence rather than likeness — something familiar, but not fixed
Are they available?
These are early studio views of new work, shared ahead of release.
